Why become a Participating Practitioner?

Over 40 million Americans have difficulty putting nutritious foods front-and-center in their diets. Over $1 trillion was spent on diet-related illness in the US in 2017. However, multiple studies show that increased access to healthy, affordable foods cause people’s habits to shift. That is why we are working to bring this conversation into physician’s offices — we are the front line for empowering patients to make healthier life choices. With the Rx Veggies&Fruits Patient Program, our clinics are given one more tool to help the people we serve.

IDENTIFYING INSECURITY WITH 97% ACCURACY

There is food insecurity if the patient answers “often true” or “sometimes true” to one of the following questions:

  1. “Within the past 12 months, we worried whether our food would run out before we got money to buy more.”
  2. “Within the past 12 months the food we bought just didn’t last and we didn’t have money to get more.”

Want to do more?

We are seeking physician support in building new garden locations and in maintaining current ones. Each 4×4 garden can provide 125lbs of veggies for the community. A garden can be set up off an existing well, facet, or rain barrel.  We are here to help you.  We are also encouraging physicians to participate by providing enhanced nutritional education to patients. As health care providers, we are at the forefront of the fight for healthy choices.
